A
native Australian, Gary has spent over twenty years of his life
climbing and exploring much of the world, including over 30 trips
to the Himalayas.
A pioneer of extreme rock climbing and previously an international
mountain guide, he is the world-record holder for the fastest ascent
of Alaska’s Mt. McKinley, climbing it alone in a super human
18 ½ hours. He was a member of the successful 1991 American
Everest Expedition. During that expedition, Gary attempted a world
record one-day ascent, alone and without oxygen. He and his wife
Diane live in Colorado Springs.
May 15, 2003: Here at Base Camp waiting for the jet stream to move
away from Everest to give us the few days we need to climb this
puppy and come home. I'd personally like to take this chance to
thank my sponsors who have made my trip possible. I did a great
deal of research and testing and found the absolute BEST gear and
clothing out there:
GOLITE, who make state of the art, super light-weight clothing
and packs.
CAMP USA - who outfitted me with the world's lightest crampons,
ice axe and climbing harness.
MONTBELL USA who provided me with my high-altitude down climbing
suit and sleeping bag, which I use above base camp.
I'm using SMARTWOOL climbing gloves and socks, and MAXIT
headwear and glove liners.
I'm big into nutrition and chose ACCELORADE as a hydration
drink while I'm climbing, and I've now got Gary Guller hooked on
ENDUROX recovery drink after a hard day on the hill.
And last but far from least is a herbal formula I really like called
ALPINE ENERGY which I take every day.
Thanks to all of you for your support, encouragement, belief in
me, and for your friendship. I hope I can make you proud.
Gary acknowledges his generous sponsors:
